Chasing Lights

A lot of things peak my interest but two of those that truly fascinate me are water and lights. I have always been drawn to the beauty of lights and bodies of water for as long as I can remember. Bokeh lights and beaches were something truly magical to me, and being on the beach on a starry night is a wonderful dream.

When I was young, my mom would always talk about the Northern Lights - and that it is something she had always wanted to see in person. I never really gave it much of a thought, I figured I lived in a tropical country so it's probably not something I will see in my lifetime. While lights do always make flies me into a deep state of daydreams, I suppose I never really imagines the true beauty of the Aurora.

Not until I learned that I can finally see it from where I live...

For about a week or so, news of the high solar activity has been all over the place, especially on Facebook. I learned that the Northern Lights a.k.a. Aurora Borealis will be visible in Wisconsin. At first, I didn't really get into the hype but something inside me was telling me I have to see this!

I ended up downloading a few apps on my phone to follow its activity and well, here we were...

When we first went out, the lights were pretty faint. We drove down a county road where it was really dark and stopped at a Wiouwash Trail parking lot. Looking up, it appeared to be just a mist of cloud but then you start seeing it dance. As we waited the stronger the lights got. It was more faint on the naked eye, and phone photos capture more of the light spectrum.

We drove further down the county road and parked at one of our duck hunting spots. Oh it was magical seeing it in person!

We were also able to view it across the highway, tho it was a bit challenging with all the city's light pollution.

The lights were visible in a lot of places where it normally wouldn't have been, so you've probably witnessed your own show. I am just glad to have seen it, and it's hard to express how it felt. It may seem like such a simple thing for a lot of people, but it was definitely a phenomenal experience for me. 

Lights make me happy.
