I have a little bit of catching up to do with some of my posts. I used to back date them, but then I find it moot because who's going to see those, right? I've decided to continue posting our trips that I have previously not, just to share them to y'all! It was off season and about this time of year - so here's some things to keep in mind!
Today, let's look back at our trip to Washington Island, WI from September 2023
This was actually my first time to go to this side of the state, and see Door County with my own eyes. I've seen a lot of fun and interesting things about Door County, but have never really gone there myself. Our trip To Washington Island had us ride through this beautiful place to our true destination.
To get there, you will have to take the Washington Island Ferry Line from the tip of Door County. There are also cruises that you can check out online from other companies if you do not wish to stay there too long and want a day tour and come back afterwards. You can also bring your vehicle. Of course, we brought the Harley - it's a road trip! Washington Island is very Scandinavian.
Their rich history was build by Scandinavia settlers, and since they've been pretty much tucked away from the mainland, they preserved so much of their local culture. This place also has that maritime vibe, clearly, being an island, which definitely draws my heart so close to this place.
The Stavkirke.
One of the most notable places to visit is the Stavkirke - which is a Norse church, which you would probably recognize if you've seen any Viking themed show. This is a Christian church, tho traditionally they were places of worship for the Norse religion.
Beautiful waters.
I wish we went a little earlier in the year since it's already a tad bit too cold. We already arrived off season - one lesson we learned is that most places are closed! We were limited to a few places to visit and dine, but thankful the Nelsen's Hall & Bitters Club was open. Yes, we had a shot of bitters and became part of the Bitters club lol.
While I may not have been able to dip in their beautiful waters, this place is sure picturesque.
