Misen Knives - First Thoughts

I've been seeing it on Facebook and I finally took the plunge and bought my first set of Misen knives.

As you may already know, I love to cook. For a very long time, especially when I was back in the Philippines, I use whatever it is I have at home. I don't have terrible cooking equipment but I definitely don't have anything fancy. I think the fanciest pieces we ever owned was a ceramic pan and a ceramic knife.

Well, marketing works pretty darn well with me so I gave in and purchased the Misen Essentials Knife 5-pc Set. It retails at an already discounted price of $200 but you can use a 20% off code (TRYMISEN) to get extra shaved off! I ended up paying 8a total of $160.

The set includes a Serrated Knife, a Chef’s Knife, a Santoku Knife, a Utility Knife, and a Paring Knife; while the 3-piece set only includes the Serrated Knife, Chef’s Knife, and Paring Knife. I figured the 5-piece was the best deal for the buck.

They come packaged in individual sturdy boxes with plastic tip protectors. I was actually happy with how they came as the boxes also had care instructions.

My first cut - an onion.
If there's one vegetable that will cause me losing a finger, it would be an onion. Not gonna lie, I've had moments where my dull knife slipped and just slid down to my nail. Well, since it was dull indeed, it didn't break nail. The Misen Chef's Knife cut through very smoothly and I'm really happy! Granted, I haven't used any other decent knives aside from those I got from the grocery store, I still have to say, I am definitely glad I with my purchase!

While cheaper knives may range from $15 up to $20 a piece, these knives tend to be on the pricier end - but for what they are, I think they're really doing a good job. On top of them coming very sharp and neatly packaged, Misen also offers lifetime sharpening so you can send them in if you don't want to do it yourself or if you have no experience in correctly  sharpening knives.

Now - we will find out how long these will last without getting dull! And will they actually hold up. This just made my cooking experience a lot better and I have high hopes that it will last.

    Hey, it's me!

I've always loved to write. Not saying I'm good at it, but hey this is the story of my life!

I blog about life updates, travels, things that I love, and of course my puppies Hans & Ein!

I also do quick reviews of things for the normal folk. I don't do super comprehensive reviews (maybe some) - that's a job for the pros. But if you like simple and straight forward observations - then here's my two cents.
