I love me a good meal, can you tell? I love to cook, and I love to dine. We visited Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen in Appleton for a second time! It's definitely a place worth going to for a nice, filling, dinner.

If there's one thing we love doing, it's checking out new places to dine. I love experiencing different food, including local places and good spirits. This is also the part I enjoy most when we're travelling, but of course, experiencing good ol' Wisconsin is great!
Mr. Brews Taphouse is a Wisconsin franchise that started in Weston back in 2013. A few months ago, a branch opened up on Oshkosh Ave. and of course we have to try it. My husband is a beer enthusiast - that's one thing he takes seriously: finding great craft beer.
We've been talking about going there, so last week we finally did with our friend. They have a wide variety of beers and other drinks, some that you can get in store and some we haven't heard before.
Bear and I celebrated our very first Valentine's Day together nine years ago, and discovered Island Sushi in Appleton, WI. It was a great place and the food was amazing! We've gone there a lot since, and later found their other location in De Pere, WI. I, personally, love Japanese (and most Asian cuisine) and finding these places brings my heart closer to home.
Since 2016, we celebrated Sushiversarry every Valentine's Day and this is one tradition I truly love and enjoy! This year, we went to a place closer to home Sushi Lover Oshkosh. It opened some time last year, and we definitely love this place!
Best thing to do when spring is approaching but it's still cold AF?
Mmmm... relax, have a good sip of coffee and do your nails and have a steak!
I'm actually talking about two of the great discoveries I've had so far - and no kidding, it's steak and nails indeed. You're probably wondering how that makes senses. Maybe you don't but oh well... here's why!
I've been seeing it on Facebook and I finally took the plunge and bought my first set of Misen knives.
As you may already know, I love to cook. For a very long time, especially when I was back in the Philippines, I use whatever it is I have at home. I don't have terrible cooking equipment but I definitely don't have anything fancy. I think the fanciest pieces we ever owned was a ceramic pan and a ceramic knife. Well, marketing works pretty darn well with me so I gave in and purchased the Misen Essentials Knife 5-pc Set. It retails at an already discounted price of $200 but you can use a 20% off code (TRYMISEN) to get extra shaved off! I ended up paying 8a total of $160. Who would've thought that this party girl would be planting veggies and battling aphids five years later after her drinking and traveling spree?
Yeah, I didn't think so!
I never really thought that watering plants and checking my garden during my breaks would be something I would look forward to. Growing a garden can be quite challenging but it can be very rewarding. There's a lot to learn in a span of months and even years, but this is something I want to keep doing because it actually feels good to harvest something you personally grew.
I started gardening a few years ago. I focused in planting flowers on the front garden and this year, I added edging and more flowers. I also learned which flowers to avoid and add. One step up that I started this year was to plant edible goodies!
If there's one thing that I miss so much since I left the Philippines, it's eating seafood! Moving in the middle of the USA and closest ocean literally are hundreds if not a thousand plus something miles away, getting fresh seafood is almost impossible. When we discovered Island Sushi in Appleton, WI - because I was actively searching - I couldn't be any happier! A little over five years later, we still go there regularly but I've always thought... why not make it myself?
The biggest struggle is getting sushi grade fish. I don't trust eating the salmon and tuna from grocery stores raw. I also know that there is a freezing process involved to kill the parasites and bacteria. I only have a regular freezer that doesn't deep freeze so that's another story. Well, of course I can always use crab meat or shrimp, but I guess I just never had the motivation until I found this Korean store that sold Korean and Japanese goodies! There are many Asian stores here but they're mostly Hmong and the products are mostly Southeast Asian. I definitely have no complaints as they sell the food I want and need. But they didn't have much Japanese or Korean items so finding the Oriental Food Mart in Appleton was awesome.
I finally took the courage to create my own Maki Rolls! The catch? I cooked my salmon!
But why!?? I wasn't ready to risk getting parasites or getting sick. Did it taste any different? Not really. The texture is different consider that raw fish more gelatinous but it was still great (or so the Husband Bear says!). This will also be great for people who aren't fond of eating raw food.
