Bear and I celebrated our very first Valentine's Day together nine years ago, and discovered Island Sushi in Appleton, WI. It was a great place and the food was amazing! We've gone there a lot since, and later found their other location in De Pere, WI. I, personally, love Japanese (and most Asian cuisine) and finding these places brings my heart closer to home.
Since 2016, we celebrated Sushiversarry every Valentine's Day and this is one tradition I truly love and enjoy! This year, we went to a place closer to home Sushi Lover Oshkosh. It opened some time last year, and we definitely love this place!
Why Celebrate Sushiversarry?
Every year on Valentine's Day, I often see two types of posts about celebrating the day
A lot of people would show how they celebrated Valentines day, showcasing the things they did and the gifts they either bought or received. On the other side. I also see a lot of people expressing how much they hate the this Hallmark holiday and why it shouldn't be celebrated. I see both sides of course you should show your love and care to your partner any time of the year.. But at the same time, it's fun for some people to do a little extra. These points being said, I'm a hopeless romantic. See, I always say that my husband is a quiet and stoic man; but throughout the years, he's constantly proven how thoughtful and sweet he is. Sushiversarry, to me, is celebrating something we did for the first time since I moved to the US. and found a sushi place. See, it's not that easy to find really good Asian restaurants in Wisconsin. There are a few for sure but it's not comparable to places you can find in California or Hawaii. So the annual event, for us, isn't just Valentine's day. It's our day. It's our special sushi day amongst other sushi days, this is best!). Why We Love Sushi Lover
When Sushi Lover opened in Oshkosh, we didn't know what to expect. One of my friends who used to live here raved about how good it was, but he always talked about the one in Appleton. Of course when this location opened. had to check it out. There are other Sushi places in town,
I but they typically serve ala carte. That's where the plot twist is - Sushi Lover also serves ala cart, you order whatever type you want and your waiter will bring it to you. You can order anything you want from various appetizers including edamame, shumai, and crab rangoons, to fried rice and noodles. Of course, they offer many varieties of rolls, sushi, and sashimi. You can order whatever your heart desires and pay a fixed price of $29/person for all you can eat! I absolutely love that you sit down and start ordering without having to go to a buffet table, or have to pick random items in the sushi boat while you wait for your turn to place a special order.
Needless to say, I am stuffed and happy! And many thanks to my Bear for taking me here despite my eternal broque.
